Country studies/Kiva project

Monterrey View

In an effort to avoid poster projects and come up with some kind of meaningful country study, I created this project to do during a unit on travel and responsible tourism.  The part that I like is the connection with Kiva, as the students must first fundraise for a person requesting a micro loan in a Spanish speaking country, and then do their country study based on where that person is from.  I usually begin the project by giving a brief background lesson on traditional lending vs micro loans.  I have also tried to tie it as close as possible to any travel the students may potentially do, thus I require them to look up Spanish schools, the cost of flights, the names of actual hotels, etc.
