This is a simple summary based on the film “La Bamba.” I used this with the film at the beginning of 1st year Spanish (Spanish 9 in British Columbia), when the students had just over a week of classes and were about 2/3 of the way through the movie. I went over the vocabulary with them, and then had them translate in pairs in a “ping-pong reading” – one person reads the first sentence, the other translates, then the one who just translated reads the next sentence, etc. The reading uses very basic vocabulary and is modeled on the TPRS style.
