Each class, one student presents a current event from the Spanish-speaking world. They must show where the event takes place on a map, give a summary of the event, explain why the event is important and discus how it is related to the students’ lives. They also hand in a brief bibliography card that explains the event and their sources.
This activity can be completed in English as the focus is on building connections and awareness about current issues. I have provided a list of suitable news websites which focus more on social justice issues than entertainment, sports, etc.
